Leeds United left-back Hector Junior Firpo, 28, could return to Real Betis in the future.

Real Betis are planning to bring back 28-year-old left-back Hector Junior Firpo, either in January or until the player’s contract with Leeds United expires in the summer of 2025, Ufabet reported on Friday.

Firpo is a product of the club’s youth system who broke into the first team in 2018 before Barcelona paid an initial €18m plus €12m in bonuses to bring him in in the summer of 2019 as a long-term replacement for Jordi Alba.

However, Firpo failed to perform in that role, Promotion Ufabet and Barcelona allowed the player to join Leeds United in the summer of 2021 for an initial fee of €15m, plus bonuses and a 25 per cent share of the fee for a future transfer.

Real Betis are reportedly planning to bring Firpo back to the club, potentially in January or until the player becomes a free agent next summer, having previously done business with the Peacocks, signing Marc Roca and Diego Llorente.

With Barcelona retaining a 25% sell-on clause in his current contract at Leeds United, the EFL Championship side will push for a sale in the mid-season market, to avoid a free transfer exit at the end of the campaign.

Firpo’s current bond in West Yorkshire ends in 2025. And he can discuss a move to a non-English team from the start of January, if he opts against a renewal.

Real Betis would prefer a free transfer, and are willing to wait the extra six months. After already luring Marco Roca and Diego Llorente from Leeds to Andalucia ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
