Does it matter if you're a male interested in this sort of thing? I've just seen to many females every where relating such subject

Interior Designers are hot cakes here in Singapore. And I am blessed to be working in this field after earning my diploma in engineering. 🙂

Don't bother. I graduated with a BA in Interior Architectural Design. And guess what, you won't get hired anywhere- why? Because they never taught you business/marketing in school and if you don't have at least 2+ years of experience even in an entry-level position, forget it. College/degree is a load of dream BS. The joke is on you.

Is it too late for you to change your major? I still love interior designing and would love to make a hobby or part time job of it, but I have changed my mind again and now want to be a social worker. I'm always changing my career plans… But anyway, yeah I know it's tough to find a career you want to stick with. Schools just teach kids pointless stuff with no guidance as to finding a career, figuring out on your own is hardwork, takes long, and expensive to try many things out til find sumthin

I agree so much. I am currently majoring in pre-pharmacy. I am so depressed. I wish I would have learned about careers that I could have gotten in the art field.

Too often, people pressure kids into jobs like doctors and lawyers. They don't really suggest other career opportunities like Interior Design so I feel it leaves any kids feeling lost with no idea of what career to move into. I'm glad I discovered, however it's kind of too late because college is around the corner and none of the colleges I applied to have Interior Design. Not sure what to do at this point. Seems I have no choice but to take a gap year or go to a community college in mean time.

I'd like to thank you for taking the time to create this video. For a long time I have not been sure of what I want to do with my life, and recently I had been thinking about interior design because I just love the look of certain hotels and restaurants and I've even been helping my sister in decorating her new apartment. I truly plan on sticking with this, and may also go into fashion design. I wish I could've have learned of this career long ago.

Interior decorating and Interior Design are different. This video described what Interior designers do for a living. If you love decorating and don't want to make a whole bunch of layouts, and planning, etc, then you can just be an interior decorator. They are hired to put the furniture in places that have already been designed. Usually they are hired by rich people who don't know what to do with all their money. However, they make significantly less than Interior designers.

Thanks! So you're saying that I don't need to be an artist to be an interior designer. My drawing on a scale of 1 through 10 is like a 4.5

The same goes for me. I thought about volunteering somewhere just to get a feel or see what it's like. I want to start something I can finish.

Current interior design student here. I can't draw for shite. Primarily, you'll be drafting, which utilizes either a T-square or a drafting table with a parallel rule and various triangles, curves, templates, and other tools so every line you draw is controlled. It's a very precise process. I've also been made to develop some skill in sketching, which is easier when it's of orthogonal interior spaces/buildings once you understand perspective. After that is Computer Aided Drafting with programs.
